Market Street Saloon’s barbeque team gears up for competition Saturday
Local event to feature “seasoned” pit masters
Charleston, S.C. –Queology, the official barbeque team for Charleston’s Market Street Saloon (North Charleston location), will compete in the local event for the Sam’s Club National BBQ Tour, Saturday, June 16, 2012.
The Sam’s Club National BBQ Tour is a Kansas City BBQ Society (KCBS) sanctioned event. Sponsored by Sam’s Club, the tour features 25 local events, five regional events, and one national championship event. For more information, visit http://kcbs.us/sams-club-series.php.
The top six teams from this event will advance to Tennessee in September for one of the regional events, and the top 10 will advance to Arkansas for the national finals.
The event on Saturday will be held in the parking lot of the North Charleston Sam’s Club, located at 4900 Centre Point Drive. Teams start cooking around midnight Friday and then submit food in the four categories between noon and 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Awards will be announced at 4:00 p.m. Queology will be cooking chicken, pork ribs, pork butts, and beef brisket.
Pit Master Russ Cornette, one of the founding members of Queology, the official barbeque team of the Market Street Saloon, will be onsite. Cornette commented, “I am extremely proud to have overseen production of Market Street Saloon’s award winning homemade sauces, and those are the very sauces we expect to help bring home the prize!”
Cornette is a principal barbeque instructor with the Carolina Pit Masters BBQ Cooking School, which raises money for local non-profit organizations and has supported several non-profit organizations through barbecue, including Sculpture in the South, the Junior Service League of Summerville, and the Summerville Miracle League. Queology recently won a Grand Championship at the Southern Flame BBQ and Music festival in Summerville, S.C.
