WALTERBORO, South Carolina — The Lowcountry Regional Airport in Walterboro is celebrating its 80th anniversary.
A celebration on Saturday features flight demonstrations as well as flights for kids and recognition of those who helped establish the airport and helped it prosper.
Officials say the airport is now the largest general aviation airport in South Carolina.
Walterboro Mayor Bill Young says the airport has helped spur tourism and economic development in the area near the state’s southern coast.
The Saturday event is similar to one held 80 years ago when the airport first opened.
