Canisgallicus: FastCompany: A new museum about America’s history of slavery reclaims one of the nation’s most sacred grounds
On the shoreline in Charleston, South Carolina, a major new museum has just opened to explore and mark the global and historical implications of the Atlantic slave trade. The International African American Museum, now open after more than 20 years in development, is dedicated to telling the interwoven narratives of the vast and devastating movement of people from Africa to North America, the harsh realities of slavery and its impact on the people and economy of a new nation, and the long-lasting ramifications of one of the worst injustices perpetrated on humankind.
