LowcountryBizSC: Frampton Construction begins construction on new facility for Adams Outdoor Advertising
Frampton Construction Company, LLC, a regional full-service construction firm providing planning and design support, preconstruction, and construction services, has started work on a 19,000-square foot building in Charlotte, N.C., for Adams Outdoor Advertising, the largest privately held outdoor advertising firm in the nation.
This building, which will house the company’s flagship Charlotte operation, sits on a highly visible 6+ acre site along I-85 in Charlotte, N.C., and consists of a 9,044-square foot shop and a 10,098-square foot office.
The design team, led by Nicholas Galizia of McMillan Pazdan Smith Architecture, created a “refined industrial” design that celebrates the building’s exposed steel structure and concrete floors. The form of the building takes its cues from the natural topography of the site, solar orientation, and the mission of the building itself – to advertise. The vertical fins along the north elevation are designed to provide shade from the setting sun, while the walls that meet at the northeast corner of the building serve as space for graphics.
Jeannine Dodson, general manager of Adams Outdoor Advertising, commented, “Adams Outdoor, a long-time business resident of dynamic Charlotte, has been growing and prospering with the city and county. The new space along I-85 will give us the room we need for our marketing folks, our support team (including creative, scheduling, real estate, and accounting), and our operations department, the staff who are out there installing and maintaining our displays all over the metro-Charlotte area. The whole Adams team is excited about our new home, anticipating years of development and expansion of our brand and our products.”

In addition to Frampton Construction, Adams Outdoor Advertising has partnered with McMillan, Pazdan, Smith Architecture, Bohler Engineering, PLLC, Britt, Peters, and Associates, Inc., and McVeigh & Mangum Engineering, Inc., on this project. Construction is expected to be complete in the summer of 2019.
