CharlestonScene: Farther-flung communities are worth finding
The outer edges of the Charleston region are a horseshoe of largely rural communities, including McClellanville, Moncks Corner and Edisto Island. These enclaves have plenty of small-town charm mixed with large stretches of open space that are chock-full of green trails, in addition to waterfronts from lakes to the Atlantic Ocean. There’s plenty for anglers at Lake Moultrie, shrimpers at McClellanville and beachgoers and golfers at Edisto.
