Marked with a slew of commemoration events earlier this year, The Charleston Museum – known as America’s first museum – is celebrating its 250th anniversary in 2023.
It was founded by members of the Charleston Library Society on January 12, 1773, and was first established to preview the state’s natural history. The museum has since evolved into the more cosmopolitan feel it has today while including objects and exhibits from around the world.
