CRBJBizWire: City of Charleston declares May as Bessinger’s Barbeque Month
Charleston, S.C. – Bessinger’s Barbeque, a popular third generation Charleston-based restaurant serving Southern-style barbeque, is being recognized this month by the City of Charleston for its tasty food and long-standing history in the community. In conjunction with National Barbeque Month, Charleston Mayor John J. Tecklenburg has proclaimed May as Bessinger’s Barbeque Month.
“I wish to thank Bessinger’s Barbeque for their family-like service, their authentic presence in the West Ashley community, and their delicious barbeque and encourage citizens to enjoy some local barbeque this month,” said Mayor Tecklenburg.
Bessinger’s Barbeque, located on Savannah Highway in West Ashley, is one of the oldest barbeque joints in Charleston. It was opened in 1960 by Thomas Bessinger, Sr., and is now owned and operated by his two sons, Tommy, Jr, and Michael, who continue to make customers feel at home in a warm, friendly, and relaxed atmosphere. Often called the first family of barbeque in South Carolina, the Bessingers are widely known for their legendary mustard-based barbeque sauce, which has been a classic since the 1930s.

National Barbeque Month is celebrated in May of each year in order to observe and celebrate the wonders of the barbeque and the many ways to cook and eat barbeque style.
