Moultrie News: Habitat for Humanity
East Cooper Habitat for Humanity, a nonprofit, nondenominational Christian housing organization, has elected Sallie Pritchard to return as a board member. A past member of the board, she was reappointed at the September meeting of the organization.
A paralegal at the Law Office of Edward K. Pritchard, Jr., Pritchard also serves on the board for the MUSC Children’s Hospital Fund. She is a former member of the Junior League of Charleston and the Charleston Junior Cotillion. A native of Charleston, S.C., Pritchard resides in the Old Village of Mount Pleasant.
East Cooper Habitat for Humanity (ECHFH) assists families by building safe, well-constructed homes. Working in partnership with low-income families, ECHFH utilizes volunteer labor and donated funds to provide a “hand up,” not a “hand out,” on the construction of their homes. Homeowners are chosen based on their demonstrated ability to handle personal finances and their willingness to contribute at least 350 hours of “sweat equity” on their home. Upon completion, Habitat homes are purchased by the homeowner with monthly payments under an interest-free mortgage over 30 years, and those payments are directed toward future homebuilding efforts as received.
