WALTERBORO, S.C. (AP) – A South Carolina town that’s been the scene of street violence and drive-by shootings has hired a consultant to help its image.
Walterboro has hired a public relations consultant from Charleston to help repair the image of the town of 5,800 people.
The Colleton County area has seen a recent surge in gun violence.
Last November three people, including a 20-month old toddler, were killed in a drive-by shooting that wounded six others. In January a woman was hit in the hand and head in another drive-by shooting.
The State Law Enforcement Division opens a satellite office in Walterboro on Wednesday to give the agency a permanent presence in the area.
