Charleston Freight Station stays the course

Adds CEO to management team to guide expansion

Charleston, S.C. – Since 1995, Charleston Freight Station (CFS) has provided container freight station services for the Port of Charleston’s customers. For the last 17 years, they served in partnership with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) as the designated Central Examination Station (CES) here. CBP handled all types of customs examinations with an automated CES program that tracked exams and containers.

Now, as the CBP has announced it will tentatively set up operations with a new provider in the City of North Charleston, CFS continues its core focus of providing outstanding container freight station services for private Port of Charleston customers. The company is also planning to expand into new markets in Savannah, Jacksonville, Miami and Atlanta and is adding more cold storage capacity to their 50,000 square foot facility on Daniel Island. As part of that expansion, Andrew Adams, a seasoned management and finance consultant, has come aboard full time to help guide the process.

According to David Blair, founder and president of Charleston Freight, “It’s time for a new chapter, and time to get back to an even sharper focus on the valuable clients who have been by our side, despite some of the challenges of serving in that role with CBP. We are grateful to our steadfast clients who stood steadily by us, and now we’re turning all of our attention on them. We couldn’t ask for a finer professional to lead in that effort. Andrew brings enormous experience and vitality to this organization.”

Adams will be responsible for the overall strategic direction of the company and oversee its day to day operations. For 25 years, Adams has helped small to mid-sized companies transition into nationally and often internationally recognized brands. Adams has worked in major markets including New York City, Washington, D.C., and San Francisco and is a native of Washington, D.C. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Hobart College in New York, where he studied economics.

Blair has been in the industry for decades and has many supporters. One of them, John Hassell, retired president of the Maritime Association of South Carolina, noted, “Charleston Freight Station is locally-owned and has always been committed to the success of its customers and the port of Charleston.  David Blair and his team have demonstrated this over and over again during the 18 years I have watched them grow and prosper. My hat’s off to them as they take the company to the next level and embark on both new services and a Southeast expansion. They’re bound to succeed.”

As a U.S. Customs bonded warehouse and container freight station, CFS offers extensive import / export services to its customers, including loose cargo transfer and breakdown, ocean import cargo, full container and LCL container services, trailer and intermodal conveyance, cargo segregation, heavy forklift service, crate disposal and fumigation, and soon, cold storage.

Founded in 1995, Charleston Freight Station is a freight logistics company providing packaging and shipping solutions across all major transportation modes including intermodal, truckload, cold chain, expedited services, and international air and ocean.  They offer packing solutions, warehousing, consolidation, damage control, export regulation compliance, military, out-of-gauge cargo, and high-end car export. There’s a wide variety of on-site corrective solutions including damaged container trans-loads, container steam cleaning and fumigation, backed by powerful internet-based management systems that let the client see, picture and track their cargo in real time.
