Walterboro incident turned over to SLED for further investigation
Walterboro, S.C. – At approximately 2:35 p.m. on March 23, 2011, Walterboro Public Safety responded to the 1300 Block of Bells Hwy for a vehicle accident. Upon arrival, responding Walterboro Public Safety Officer Corporal Murray observed Colleton County Fire Rescue assisting Pamela Malone (wife of Colleton County Sheriff Malone) and the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office directing traffic.
Corporal Murray made contact with Vivian Lingard (a Colleton County employee, who is secretary to the sheriff) and discovered that an altercation had occurred between the two women, which ultimately led to an injury involving Ms. Lingard’s automobile and injuring Mrs. Malone. Accounts of the incident were gathered, but Corporal Murray was initially unable to talk to Ms. Malone because she was being transported to MUSC. Further interviews have been taken to gather an accurate account of the events that transpired.
As of this afternoon, the incident has been turned over to SLED for further investigation, due to the dual jurisdictions.
