Walterboro Makes Drug Bust
Walterboro, S.C. – Walterboro Public Safety, along with the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division Joint Enforcement Team (JET) have seized a Psilocybin mushroom grow facility at 537 Warren Street in Walterboro.
Following a call on May 10, 2011, Walterboro Public Safety officers discovered suspicious materials. After obtaining a search warrant, the officers found materials consistent with a grow lab and immediately called the SLED JET team. The SLED JET Team responded, confirmed the grow facility, and assumed the investigation. The United States Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) was also contacted. In addition to grow lab equipment, large quantities of the mushrooms in various stages of preparation were seized, along with some marijuana.
Warrants for trafficking in Psilocybin have been issued for Edward V. Spearman, age 30. Spearman made arrangements through his attorney to turn himself in.
The SLED JET Team consists of members of the Walterboro Public Safety Department, the Cottageville Police Department, the Barnwell County Sheriff’s Office, and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.
